Oil Tank Supplies Ltd is a company that specialises in the design and build of commercial fuel facilities to meet the operational requirements in road transport, marine, agricultural, utility and warehousing logistics.
A major part of OTS marketing is attending trade shows around the world. This had involved shipping large and cumbersome model tanks at cost and inconvenience. It was felt that this didn’t give potential clients a detailed look at the services OTS could offer. Chat Noir Productions was approached to produce a short video documenting a complex installation and restoration job at an existing client site.
Solution
To show the scale and the complexity of the decommissioning and installation process, it was decided not only to film on the client’s site, but also to use time-lapse photography and computer graphics.
Even before any location filming started Chat Noir Productions installed a HD time-lapse camera in a disused office building. This filmed during the entire month-long process, capturing the transformation of a virgin site into an operational fuelling point.
Chat Noir Productions visited the site on key days, filming tanks being removed from site, taken to factory and returned for the final installation.
Also, detailed measurements and reference photographs were taken, enabling the entire site and tanks to be rebuilt using 3D computer animation.
The animation allowed the different stages of installation to be shown clearly and free from the distractions of a busy construction site.
The final video used motion graphics and text in preference to a voice-over (which was unlikely to be heard in a busy trade show), with an original music track.
The final video was provided on DVD for use at trade shows, as well as a HD version for YouTube streaming.
